Design under constraint.

EPA(Environmental Protection Agency) reports that the building construction industry generates an average waste rate of about 4.3 lb/ft2, which translates to an estimate of 15 million tons of construction waste per year. Zero Waste flips seemingly unforeseen challenges into potential achievement of budget limit of the project.

With the given constraint of a maximum 6” extrusion from the existing stucco wall, each piece of exterior grade plywood sheets were routed into six pieces, 4” wide. Then each piece was bisected by a cut line creating a symbiotic relationship between left side to right. By mutating each bisecting line gradually, each brie-soleil piece creates an undulating surface shape following the path of the Sun along the side of the house.
